Fishing [ ]

Name tags can be caught from fishing as role of the treasure category with a anehalf dozen chance after the five% chance of being a treasure catch. The chance of communicable treasure increases with the Luck of the Body of water enchantment.

Trading [ ]

Master-level librarian villagers offer to sell a proper name tag for 20 emeralds as one of their available trades.

Usage [ ]

To apply a proper noun tag, information technology must first exist renamed with an anvil, costing 1 experience level.

If it is non renamed, information technology has no consequence when used on a mob. Subsequently the name tag is renamed, the player tin can use it on a mob to give it the name given to the proper noun tag from the anvil. Mobs and name tags can be renamed any number of times. Name tags with the aforementioned name are stackable.

One time a mob is named, it keeps its name, and the name tag is consumed.

When a mob is named, it is excluded from the mob cap count.

Effects on diverse mobs:

  • A named silverfish that goes into a block appears to lose its name because it is replaced by a newly generated unnamed silverfish when the block is cleaved.
  • A baby (beast or villager) keeps its name when becoming an adult.
    • A named villager keeps its proper noun when transformed into a zombie villager.
    • A named zombie villager keeps its proper name when cured.
  • Wandering traders even so despawn fifty-fifty if they are named, or in a minecart or boat.
  • A named wither 's boss bar displays its name instead of "Wither".
  • Naming an ender dragon with commands also displays the name in the dominate bar.

Limitations [ ]

Any mob can be named except for the ender dragon and players.

A proper name tag tin rename an armor stand, though information technology does not prove the nameplate above its head until CustomNameVisible:1b is fix as an extra step.

Using a name tag on a villager renames the villager instead of opening the trading interface. A saddled sus scrofa is renamed instead of existence ridden. Using a name tag on whatsoever other mob that tin exist interacted with performs the use action instead of being named. These mobs tin can be renamed if the player uses the name tag while crouching or standing in a nether portal considering the portal suppresses the use action.

In one case a proper name tag is used on a mob, it is impossible to remove the proper name of that mob without the use of commands or external modifications.

Behavior [ ]

Renamed mobs have their name displayed over their head in the same fashion as a mob named through a renamed spawn egg. Their names tin be seen only if they are aimed at from four or fewer blocks away.

Mobs that are named using the name tag never despawn in the world, like to tamed mobs.[ane] The exceptions are wandering traders or if the mob is hostile and the difficulty is switched to "Peaceful", causing any hostile mobs or any named hostile mobs to despawn immediately.

If a renamed mob kills a player, the custom name is used in the decease message in place of the mob blazon name. For case, if a vindicator named "Johnny" kills a player, the expiry message is "Player was slain by Johnny".

A renamed wither besides has a renamed wellness bar, and the boss bar doesn't regenerate[ verify ].

Easter eggs [ ]

  • Any mob that receives the proper name "Dinnerbone" or "Grumm" is rendered upside down. This even includes the player in early versions of Bedrock Edition if the username is set to either of these and you are not signed into Xbox Live.
  • Naming a sheep "jeb_" causes its wool to fade betwixt the dye colors, producing a rainbow issue. The wool that drops when the sheep is sheared or killed is the original color of the sheep before the sheep was named.
  • Naming a rabbit "Toast" causes information technology to have a special memorial pare of user xyzen420's girlfriend's missing rabbit.
  • Naming a vindicator "Johnny" causes it to be aggressive and set on all mobs including the wither (except ghasts and other illagers). The hostility fifty-fifty extends to ravagers in Coffee Edition, equally the "Johnny" vindicator can likewise attack the ravager while it's riding information technology.
